Model Answer Unit 2.4 Activity 7

This is a model answer. You might have noted down other aspects.

I was pleasantly surprised (and a bit relieved!!) that my lesson went so well. I actually underestimated how much Scots language my class knew. I would say there aren’t many in the class who use Scots every day – but perhaps they use it more at home than they do in school. I say that because, like in the video example, the class were really good at listening to and understanding instructions in Scots. There are things I would do differently though. Analysing the poem took longer than I anticipated and whilst it was a good way to link the following activities, I would choose a different text next time. I’ve actually found more poems in the Scots section of my town library that I would like to use. And there are far more children’s books than I was aware of! Goes to show how valuable browsing your local library still is! The next lesson I’ll be doing with this class is going to begin by reading one of these books with the learners, then getting them to try writing their own stories. I’m planning an IDL element again, this time the Art teacher will help them to illustrate their stories. It should be great to show their parents.
