A guide to producing further packs

A guide to writing an experiment pack

For this project, packs were written according to a particular format. As more packs are written, it is prudent to use a similar format. Each should be numbered, for ease of reference and should be given a suitable title. The target group should be specified and learning outcomes written for the activity. Each pack has the following contents:

1. Background to experiment

A brief theoretical background to introduce the reader to the experiment, the subject of the pack. May be a separate section or may be incorporated in the Students’ or Teacher’s Guide

2. Students’ Guide

This section is intended for the student to have a review of the relevant theoretical background and instructions for performing the experiment. The theory here should be adequate to enable the student perform the activity without having to refer to the teacher’s guide.

3. Teacher’s Guide

This provides the theoretical basis the teacher needs to be able lead the students through the activity. The teacher has access to the whole Pack, including student guide notes.

4. Assessment – Student’s sheet

Questions are posed in this section to measure the extent to which the learning outcomes were achieved.

5. Extensions to experiment

Suggestions are made as to the applications of this experiment or other experiments that can be performed for better understanding of concepts that were introduced through the activity.

6. Links to other packs

6a. Show relations of this pack with other packs that have been written.
6b. Give references to textbooks, websites etc. that have information that may help.

7. Health and Safety

Advice on precautions to be taken to avoid hazards in experiments.

8. Evaluation of pack

Notes for improvement made during use of packs .
