The 21st CIEP Unites Global Talent for Innovation Development
The Conference on International Exchange of Professionals (CIEP), hosted by the Shenzhen Center for International Exchange of Personnel, jointly presented by the Ministry of Science and Technology of PR China and the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government, embodies a national, internationalized, and comprehensive platform. Focused on global technological innovation and talent resource exchange, the 21st CIEP convened from April 15 to 16, 2023, under the theme of "Promoting Scientific and Technological Innovation, Seeking Common Development, and Benefiting Global Talents."
This edition adopted a pioneering "dual-engine" approach, combining offline and online components, featuring five main segments: Opening Ceremony, Forums, Exhibition and Negotiation, Talent Recruitment, and Theme Activities. It also provided three crucial online services: Virtual Exhibition Hall, Project Matchmaking (Experts Online System), and Online Recruitment.
The 21st CIEP hosted 60 forums and activities, attracting 948 esteemed professional organizations and institutions from 28 countries and regions, with nearly ten thousand domestic and foreign government representatives, scholars, and high-end talents in attendance. The conference showcased 320 exhibitors presenting 608 innovative projects and 395 products, drawing over 53,000 visitors over two days. Extensive media coverage included nearly a hundred domestic and foreign media outlets, resulting in a substantial 10 million media impressions and 5.5 million viewers tuning into the live broadcast of the opening ceremony.
The Opening Ceremony, titled the Shenzhen Forum: Global Sci-Tech Innovation Cities, garnered support from the World Intellectual Property Organization. It engaged participants in in-depth, interactive dialogues exploring the frontiers of innovation, development, and talent through illuminating round-table discussions.
The Forums section delved into pivotal tasks and hot topics, spanning scientific and technological collaboration, talent exchange, international environmental stewardship, green low-carbon initiatives, and technology finance, with more than 30 intellectually stimulating forums and conferences.
In the Exhibition and Negotiation section, emphasis was placed on regional synergy, corporate-led innovation, and the creation of a conducive international ecosystem. Notably, the event featured two major Promotion and Signing Centers for the first time, facilitating interaction between 16 domestic provincial and municipal entities and 28 eminent overseas expert organizations, foreign universities, and research institutions. This resulted in the signing of 26 contracts, effectively promoting talent, project, and technological collaborations. The section also saw the active participation of nearly a hundred overseas PhDs in activities such as the Returnee Career Planning Forum and the PhD Project Roadshows. Additionally, the China IT Industry School Enterprise Cooperation Exhibition featured roadshows by 15 outstanding IT companies and 91 renowned domestic universities. The Science and Technology Popularization and Exhibition Hall showcased scientific installations, unique inventions from 28 innovative schools, and an exhibition of 60 captivating pieces of youth science fiction artwork. The Expat Service Fair, blending Chinese and international flavors, vigorously promoted public services, career assistance, and essential life services through on-site consultations, interactive exchanges, and commercial transactions.
The Talent Recruitment section featured four offline specialized job fairs and an online recruitment fair. The offline job fairs presented offerings from 325 distinguished companies, offering over 7,600 coveted positions for both domestic and overseas talents. The online recruitment fair garnered active participation from over 10,000 representative companies from 100 major cities, spanning over 50 diverse fields such as internet technologies, computing, smart manufacturing, electronic information, aerospace, new energy, biomedicine, and technology finance. In total, the exhibitors on-site received 12,000 resumes.
In the Theme Activities section, CIEP orchestrated the Israel Venue ahead of the main conference, signing a series of sci-tech innovation cooperation projects covering areas such as scientific finance, new energy, biomedicine, achievement transformation, and startup incubation. Furthermore, the CIEP hosted the Overseas Talent China Tour: Hubei event, inviting more than 20 overseas expert organizations for research and exchange activities in Wuhan, Hubei. After the main conference, two branch venues were organized in Xi'an, Shaanxi, and Yantai, Shandong. The two branch venues, titled "Guangdong Trek for Science and Technology Diplomats" and "Central Enterprise Trek for Science and Technology Diplomats," were held in Shenzhen and Guangzhou, inviting international organizations, science and technology diplomats, overseas experts, and more for profound participation and enriching exchanges.
The 21st CIEP further gathered high-quality overseas resources, enriched overseas talent supply, effectively served as an invaluable platform and a propitious juncture for the advancement of global technological innovation and talent exchange, thereby nurturing and fostering deeper cooperation between China and the global community at large.
