There are 16 million disabled people in the United Kingdom, which is around 25% of the total population (Steibahl et al., 2025). Of those 16 million, around 80% have invisible disabilities (Kelly & Mutebi, 2023). Despite this, invisible disabilities are often overlooked or misunderstood because they don’t align with the stereotype of what a disability is. As a result, many people with invisible disabilities experience stigma and discrimination in everyday life.
