4 Reflection
At the end of each week, you will have the opportunity to reflect on what you’ve learned, and to have a go at a short quiz based on the learning from that week’s study.
Before you do this week’s reflection and quiz, listen to the audio recording of Manuela, Michael and John (who you were introduced to earlier) talking about what they have learned so far, what they’ve put in their Digital plan and where they want to go next with their digital skills study.

OK, so what have I learned so far? I found out that I am face-to-face and friendly. That’s great, but it shows that I probably need to go online more to develop my digital skills.
I also realised that there are lots of different social media tools that I can use in different areas of my life. I especially love LinkedIn because it can be just a great boost if you’re in a job market. It’s a bit like advertising yourself. But that’s great practice for a job in marketing.
One thing I’ve put in my digital plan is to look on Facebook to see how marketing companies and professionals use social media.

Online and aware, I’m better than I thought. The quiz made me realise there’s still a lot to learn if I want to be a digital expert and I’m still not sure about phones and tablets.
I got Margaret, my wife, to help me with a TripAdvisor activity. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It’s really useful to be able to see what other people have written about their holiday experiences. We’ve decided we’ll book our own next holiday online.
I was also surprised at how useful YouTube videos can be. I thought it was all kittens in funny hats playing the piano. I’ll definitely be going back there to find out to do things. I put a note in my Digital plan to remind me.

My quiz results were ‘happy and adventurous, and that’s pretty cool. I’ve learned that Facebook isn’t all about fun and that I can use it to connect with professional people. I’ve started to think about how I can use technologies in all sorts of different ways and I’ve realised that social media can help me develop my cooking skills as well.
The video search for making profiteroles was interesting. I’ve made a note in my digital plan to go back and check for videos on other stuff like stopping mayo separating or egg custard curdling.
Activity 6 Reflecting
Take a moment to think about:
- your own starting point at the beginning of the week
- the most interesting or useful thing you have learned during the week
- one thing you want to learn more about.
Record these in your Digital plan.
If you would like to, go to the Open University Library Facebook page [Tip: hold Ctrl and click a link to open it in a new tab. (Hide tip)] and post a comment there to share something about your experience of this course so far. To help others, remember to introduce yourself and let them know that you are a learner on Succeeding in a digital world.
