2.3.2 Seeking ethical approvals

With the different components of the research design in place, including a set of data collection methods, a strategy for recruiting research participants and a RDM plan, you will now prepare for ethical approvals based on your institutional guidance and procedures.

(You learned about ethical considerations in SoTL research in Session 4.)

Activity 7 Strategies for choosing your research methods

Timing: Allow approximately 10 minutes

Think about the various strategies for choosing research methods that you have explored in this session.

  • For the SoTL inquiry that you are designing to conduct in the near future, reflect on these strategies for your research question(s). Next, list some strategies that you will be considering for choosing the research methods for your inquiry.
  • If you are not currently planning to conduct a SoTL inquiry, reflect on the strategies and list the ones that have influenced your thinking the most for SoTL research.
