12 Summary of Week 7
During this week you have read about contemporary issues of public order policing such as the policing of demonstrations and riots, and how this has at times been controversial. You have also learned about the history of violent disorder, the use of troops and the beginnings of public order policing in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. You should now be able to:
- appreciate the different challenges facing the police when they grapple with serious public order problems
- discuss the historic policing of public order in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries
- analyse evidence to consider the extent to which this history provides perspectives valuable to contemporary public order policing.
