Digital skills: succeeding in a digital world

Week 7: Being digital: making it work for you

Introduction

Over the last six weeks you have been encouraged to reflect on the ways you interact and succeed in a digital world. You have also been given an opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge. You’ve been accompanied on your journey by Manuela, John and Michael.

This week you are going to find out how the course has helped Manuela, John and Michael, and what impact it has had on their lives. This will remind you of your own experience of the course and help you to think about how you might apply your learning to work, study or everyday life.

KATHARINE
Welcome to Week 7: Making it work for you. This week, we find out how Manuel and Michael and John have got on with the course and how they're using what they've learned to move ahead with their goals.
WENDY
They're all making progress with their career plans, aren't they?
KATHARINE
Yes, developing their digital skills has really started to pay off. And they're using what they've learned in all sorts of ways.
WENDY
So this week, you will get to catch up with each of them and advise them on what they should be doing next. You'll be finding out how you can use Creative Commons licences to ethically use other people's work.
KATHARINE
And you can use Creative Commons to protect your own rights online as well.
WENDY
That's right. So if you decide to get creative and put your own work out online, you can use these licences to maintain some control over how others use your work.
KATHARINE
And that can even help you develop your digital profile as Manuel, Michael and John have found.
