Biography

Leaving school in Bolton, Lancashire in 1966 I started an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic. Thanks to the Industrial Training Boards, this involved attending Technical College for 1 day and evening each week to develop a technical education. I became an Assistant Lecturer in Motor Vehicle studies in Southend on Sea in 1972 and studied ONC and HNC in Engineering. I joined Ford Motor Co. in Essex in 1978 and Ford funded an OU course, graduating in 1984. In 1986 I moved to Iveco (cv part of Fiat) in Watford and became Technical Director in 2003. In December 2005 I jumped ship and Joined Iveco in Turin. I retired from work in 2011. I live in a small town called Cocconato with my wife Joy, an artist. I created a metal working workshop and have made a number of audio-kinetic sculptures and also a three wheeled car (rather like a Morgan) that I built from scratch based on a Moto Guzzi Breva 1100. I have become interested in 3D design using SketchUp and in September 2021, I enrolled on a Master of Engineering course, again with the OU I have completed modules T192 and at the end of T193. I'll be 80 years od by the time I finish the course!
