It is "primarily for reporting things which are broken or dirty or damaged or dumped, and need fixing, cleaning or clearing".

It was initiated by a non-governmental organisation/charity and encourages people to participate through an online platform. FixMyStreet is local in orientation and concerned with neighbourhood & community.

It was launched in February 2007 and is ongoing.
