As the University celebrates 20 years of ๐ข๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ป, it feels like the perfect time to also recognise the journey and impact of ๐ข๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ป ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ (OLC).ย
Both platforms trace their roots back to ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฒ, launched in 2006 as part of a project funded by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. While LearningSpace evolved into OpenLearn, LabSpace became OpenLearn Works and ultimately the OpenLearn Create platform we know today.
Over the years, projects including ๐๐๐๐ง, ๐ง๐๐๐, ๐ง๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐, ๐ง๐๐ฆ๐ฆ-๐๐ป๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฎ, ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป, and ๐ข๐๐ฃ๐ฆ demonstrated the power of collaborative, partner-led course development and helped shape OLCs future direction. These initiatives showed how open platforms can support organisations, communities and learners around the world to create, adapt and share learning.
OpenLearn Create may not always enjoy the same visibility as some of its counterparts, but its contribution to the University's mission is no less significant. Through partnership, innovation and openness, OLC has enabled hundreds of organisations and projects to extend access to learning and deliver meaningful impact.
As we celebrate OpenLearn's milestone anniversary, let's also celebrate the platform that continues to empower partners to create learning that changes lives.
The Partnership Learning team would like to thank everyone who has been part of the OpenLearn Create journey over the years. Whether you've developed a course, collaborated on a partnership project, supported learners, or contributed to the platform's evolution, your support, expertise and commitment have helped shape OLC into the platform it is today.
