In this section, students will gain an overview of the academic processes and considerations when deciding to study abroad. 

In this section, students will understand why Declaring Your Major is required prior to studying abroad, and how to navigate DegreeWorks and which courses are needed in order to graduate. 

Academic Transcripts

Once you return from your semester abroad, you may be wondering when you will receive a transcript or completed grades. Please note that it typically takes universities overseas 1-3 months to complete and send official transcripts to USD. The USD International Center will then process your transcript to the U.S. grading system, and the Registrar's Office will then update your DegreeWorks to reflect your grades from abroad. 

If you have an extenuating circumstance (urgent scholarship application, transferring universities, etc) and you need an expedited transcript, please contact the partner or host university abroad to see if expedited transcripts can be sent. Otherwise, all transcripts will be processed as they are received. It is not unusual for transcripts not to be received until the following term at USD.
