13.2. Case Study 2

A thirteen year old Arabic speaking boy whose parents were from Somalia was placed in a residential special school. When an advocate visited him for the first time it became clear that he had no opportunity to practice his Muslim religion and no effort had been made to meet his cultural dietary needs. His sense of isolation was acute both from his family and his culture. The advocate immediately referred the boy for an Arabic speaking independent visitor.
