This week made me realise that becoming a more inclusive teacher is an ongoing process. I really liked the idea of having a personal “toolkit” of strategies, resources and ideas that I can adapt depending on my learners and their needs. I also found the idea of reflecting on my own teaching very useful, because sometimes we learn more from looking at what happened in a real lesson than simply reading about teaching theories.
I especially liked learning about OERs because they give teachers the opportunity to find, adapt and share useful resources without having to create everything from the beginning. As a teacher, I think this can save time and also give us new ideas to try in the classroom. My question is: how can we make sure that the resources we choose are really appropriate for our particular learners and context, rather than simply using them because they are available?
After completing this week, I feel that inclusive teaching is less about finding one perfect method and more about being willing to observe, reflect, adapt and try again. I think this is probably one of the biggest challenges for teachers, because it requires time and an open mind. I would like to continue using reflection as part of my teaching routine and gradually build my own toolkit of activities and resources that work well with my learners.
