Activity: Understanding Trauma and Learning (

        Instructions:

a.                   Reflect on a time when you worked with a student affected by trauma.

b.                  Write down the behaviours you observed and how these behaviours impacted the student’s learning.

c.                   Identify one SEL strategy you could have used to support the student.

·         Guiding Questions:

·         What behavioural challenges did the student exhibit (e.g., avoidance, anger, withdrawal)?

·         How could these behaviours have been addressed using SEL strategies?

·         How could emotional distress impact a child’s ability to focus on or engage with math tasks?

·         How does recognizing students’ emotions influence your teaching approach?

·        Expected Outcome: Teachers gain insights into the link between trauma and behaviour and identify practical SEL strategies they can apply.
