"What happens when I report hate and discrimination?"

View

If you've experienced or witnessed discrimination or hate, we want to encourage you to report it to the right people.

Reporting and Age Considerations
Where it relates to a perpetrator or someone who has experienced discrimination and hate who is under 18, you need to report this to your National Governing Body.

Where it relates to a perpetrator or someone who has experienced discrimination and hate who is over 18, discretion is needed about whether you report or not. If you have witnessed the incident, it's best to speak to the person who has experienced the incident and ask them if they'd like to report. You can recommend that they report, and share that you might support them to make that report, but the decision is theirs to make.

Reporting to your National Governing Body
If you have experienced hate or discrimination in your sports club, you should report your experiences to your relevant National Governing Body (NGB).

The link below directs you to the most appropriate place to report a hate incident, hate crime, or discrimination to your National Governing Body (NGB).

Reporting hate incidents, hate crime or discrimination to your National Governing Body

If you're not sure if what happened was a hate crime, you can refamiliarize yourself with the information in module 1 and 2.

Reporting to the Police and Other Services
You may also wish to report your experiences to the police; they are required to investigate. The police might also investigate if you've experience more than one hate incident- for example; if someone keeps harassing you. If you believe you are in this situation, you should report each incident to police so they have a record.

The flowchart below shows the process you should take if you wish to report to the police.
