Parkinsons UK

Archived user story about Parkinson's UK how the OU worked with the organisation to create an online version of a Parkinson’s UK course which was originally delivered as a face to face workshop for Health and Social Care staff.

Parkinson's UK collaborated in partnership with The Opening Educational Practices in Scotland project to produce their first open educational course called Understanding Parkinson's, based on materials they used in face to face workshops for Health and Social Care staff. OEPS worked with Parkinson's to identify the audience, purpose, learning outcomes and assessment methods and assisted with the editing of the materials.

The Open University uploaded the course materials to OpenLearn Create using OU structured content, set up the quizzes, badge and Statement of Participation. The course was piloted with a small group of targeted learners. Following the pilot Parkinson's UK approved the course for publicity and many more learners enrolled. Parkinson's UK and the OEPS project have subsequently developed two further openly licenced courses. A more detailed case study about this project can be read at Building an OER in partnership - Understanding Parkinson's.
