Resources for the integrated Social Behaviour and Network Therapy iSBNT topic

What is iSBNT? 'i' stands for integrated, in that we are recommending the use of motivational dialogue skills throughout; 'S' stands for social as this approach emphasises the importance of positive social factors; 'B' stands for behaviour, in that this is a behavioural approach, starting from the here and now and addressing changes in the future; 'N' stands for network, as the process of change is planned and supported by family and friends and 'T' stands for therapy. iSBNT derives from several sources and evidence-based interventions: Marc Gallanter's Network. You might want to revisit the important meta-analysis by Barbara McCrady demonstrating the roles played by supportive others, that you read in the Addiction Conversations module and you will find more about family and friends when you read about iSBNT.

When you go to the Six Tasks for Recovery page you will read a summary of the iSBNT sessions - the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th tasks.

You will click on each summary to...

  • Read the detail about building a support network (2nd Task) then go to the bottom of the page to click on the link to the Practitioner Notes
  • Repeat this for the next three tasks: goal setting, relapse prevention and lifestyle change to learn about the iSBNT context for these core activities.
