The tasks for this 4th topic are...
- To understand the importance of evidence-based practice
- To examine the range of treatments covering severity and different stages of change
- To explore the methods of treatment planning decisions
- To study the meaning of treatment outcomes and recovery and how to assess these
- To debate the motion: 'the briefer the intervention, the more experienced and skilful practitioners need to be'
- Finally, discussion with your study group or mentor to be sure you have understood the elements of an effective intervention, and how you decide what might be relevant to your treatment choices.

- Watch the Professor Rudi Moos interview; he will help you understand the good outcome predictors you will want to take account of.
- Note the 4Ps as a useful way of structuring your assessments - even if just a brief assessment.
- Make sure you understand the usual components of treatment and look down the What Works checklist.
- Note the range of commonly used treatments including pharmacotherapies.
