Learning how to learn: a process we all engage in throughout our lives, but no single method of learning guarantees success. This free course, Learning how to learn, aims to make the process of learning much more explicit by inviting you to apply various ideas and activities to your own study as a way of increasing your awareness of your own learning. Most learning has to be an active process and this is particularly true of learning how to learn.

This course helped me plan my study around assessment instead of just working harder. One thing I now do before an exam is work backwards from the grade I want. For example, if coursework is worth 40% and the final exam 60%, and I have 72% in the coursework, then to finish with 70% overall I need (70 - 0.4 x 72) / 0.6 = 68.7% in the final. Knowing that number changed how I revised - I aimed for a realistic target instead of panicking. I used this tool for working out your final grade to check the maths, then broke my revision into the topics I needed to secure those marks. Really useful for anyone returning to study and setting learning goals.
