Dwayne William Linsley
Biography
I am deeply passionate about the future of our fisheries and am currently preparing to return to university to pursue formal studies in this field. This decision stems from a lifelong connection to fishing and a growing commitment to solving critical environmental challenges, particularly the threat posed by noxious species such as carp in Victoria’s waterways.
Over the past several years, I have been actively involved in grassroots efforts to restore and protect local aquatic ecosystems. I founded and currently run a community based social fishing group dedicated to promoting sustainable fishing practices. Our focus goes beyond recreational fishing, I aim to foster stewardship of our local waterways, especially in areas like Taylors Lakes and other urban water systems affected by stormwater drainage and the infestation of carp. Our mission is to help restore native fish populations and create healthier, more accessible fishing environments for future generations.
My work has already led me to collaborate with key government stakeholders, including contributions to fish stocking initiatives, submissions to the Victorian Fisheries Authority, and ongoing attempts to open dialogue with Melbourne Water regarding waterway restoration and habitat rehabilitation. These experiences have given me valuable insight into the practical and policy driven aspects of environmental management, but I now seek to deepen my knowledge and broaden my impact through formal education.
Returning to university represents the next step in my journey, a way to build the scientific and technical foundation I need to play a greater role in shaping the future of Victoria’s fisheries. I am committed to learning, contributing, and leading in the fight to protect our waterways and to ensure that sustainable, thriving fisheries remain part of our environmental and cultural heritage.
