  Excellent article and video.  Funnily enough I have spent the past year experimenting with smart meters in the water industry which use a fixed network to send hourly data back to base - this is a great example of one feature of a new smart city.  We have used this data to help respond to water leaks and have had huge success in reducing them (despite what the media may tell you!).  I have also just completed a BA (Hons) Environmental Studies with the OU studying most of the Geography modules and can't thank them enough for all the excellent materials over the years :)  Love the OpenLearn mini courses like this as well, very interesting.

  I feel very strongly about driverless cars taking over and just being available when you need them like a taxi service. To me, having my own car is a personal thing. I've chosen the car I like because of its comfort and features etc. It is personalised to suit my needs eg. my chargers are already set up. I keep a potty in the boot for my toddler in case there are no toilets nearby or for long journeys. Also, when I'm out shopping I often return to the car to offload some bags before carrying on shopping. A car is so much more than a means of transport. Having our own driverless cars to replace regular cars would work better but I guess if the aim is to save space this won't be an option for most people. Will we be priced out of owning a car?
