3.2 ‘Real-world’ skills
Although we are describing ‘real-world’ skills as a separate set of skills, we hope that you can see the value of these skills in supporting your learning, as well as being important for many other aspects of your life. In this course, we have been focusing on:
- communication skills
- problem-solving (decision making) skills
- organisational (self-management) skills.
The next activity is similar to the one you have just completed, but here the focus is on the skills that we have labelled as everyday or real-world skills.
Activity 22: Reflecting on how you have used the three ‘real-world’ skills
This activity is an opportunity to reflect on how you have used these three skills in this course. For this activity, select an activity from this course. Again, you are asked to draw up a table similar to the one below. We have included an example. For this activity, try to include an example of how you have used all three ‘real-world’ skills.

We hope that completing this activity will help reinforce the idea that these three skills are transferable – that they can be used in a variety of different situations. These skills act as an important foundation for many aspects of our lives. They can even help with learning. They are also the skills that you will be encouraged to use in the next course.
The next course can also be viewed as an opportunity to develop a deep approach to your learning.
