Moving around the course
The whole course takes around 8 hours but it is divided into four distinct study ‘sessions’. Each session stands alone and involves 1-2 hours of study. Because we are aware that everyone’s knowledge and understanding of social media varies, you can choose which session best fits your needs.
You can also work through the course at a pace that suits you and at times that fit around your daily life and routine. You can do one session per week, or you can do more or less than this – work at whatever pace suits your needs best.
The four sessions are as follows:
- Social media use
- Socialisation: Enriching education with social media
- The most popular platforms in Higher Education
- Understanding risk and boundaries in the online environment.
In the ‘Summary’ at the end of each session, you will find a link to the next session. If at any time you want to return to the start of the course, click on ‘Full course description’. From here you can navigate to any part of the course.
It’s also good practice, if you access a link from within a course page, to open it in a new window or tab. That way you can easily return to where you’ve come from without having to use the back button on your browser.
References to ‘Twitter’ or ‘X’
You might notice throughout the course that there are references to the social media service ‘Twitter’, or ‘X’. Please note that this is referring to the same social media platform. At the time of writing this course, Twitter was re-branded to the new name of ‘X’ so both terms are used in this course.
