Week 4: Identifying team roles

Introduction

Welcome to Week 4 of the course.

In Week 3, you focused on Tuckman’s model of team development – considering the various different stages from Forming to Adjourning. You took some time to reflect on teams you have been a member of, and the process they went through in order to perform effectively – or not! While this model provides a useful framework, you also explored its potential weaknesses and looked at an alternative.

This week, you’ll learn about the individual roles within a team, exploring the different functional and behavioural roles you might encounter. You’ll start by identifying the wide variety of roles you play at home and at work, and you’ll reflect on the roles that play to your strengths in a team environment.

To begin Week 4, watch Lynne Johnson's introductory video.
