4 Summary of Session 1

As you conclude this first session, remember that our positionality deeply affects our understanding of race and racism. Becoming aware of your own biases and assumptions can allow you to better support and work with children and young people. This awareness is the first step towards creating more inclusive and equitable environments.

In the next session, you will explore how racial identity develops in the early years. You will look at the foundational stages of identity formation and the impact of early experiences on young children’s understanding of race.
