Figure 9 provides a visual summary of domestic sources of law making in Scotland. Four main sources are shown: Historical sources; the Scottish parliament; Courts and Judiciary and UK Parliament. Historical sources are shown as previous parliaments and the institutional writers. The Scottish Parliament, any matters that are not reserved, where there is legislative competence, can pass primary or secondary legislation. Courts and the Judiciary, common law though use of precedent and court hierarchy. Also statutory interpretation. The UK Parliament on reserved matters, can pass primary or secondary legislation.
