Session 4: More about chemical bonding

Introduction

In the last session study you focused on some elementary ideas about chemical bonding, specifically the electron pair bond, and the idea that many elements attain the electronic structures of noble gases when forming compounds. Now you will be taking these concepts further and looking at how they can provide a much more detailed insight into the nature of the bonding in molecules and hence account for some of their properties.

But first you’ll be revisiting the important concept of valency and finding out more about what it can tell you about bonding.
