Please note that this is not a course containing teaching materials. It collates links to a variety of courses and other resources about natural selection, its relevance to different environments and animal species, and the theory's influence on future scientists, psychologists and philosophers. It will be of interest to anyone wishing to study Darwin’s theory of evolution and natural selection and how his work has gone on to influence other work around this theory.
Course learning outcomes
After studying this course, you should be able to:
understand Darwin's theory of evolution and natural selection
recognise how his theory has influenced other work in this area and beyond.
Rating 2 stars as this course is more of an overview for multiple other courses and the theory of Darwinism is never actually touched on – or even defined once.
There are also issues within some of the sections of this course as follows:
Section 1: Evolution and natural and artificial selection
Broken links/Courses are no longer accessible:
An introduction to biological systematics
Evolution: artificial selection and domestication
Section 2: Animals at the extremes
Broken links/Courses are no longer accessible:
Changing climate: island life in a volatile world
Overall: Evolution and natural selection were actually never once defined within this course. I would more so label this course as a table of contents for other courses since only descriptions of other courses were explained within the course. I had to go through and pull out words from excerpts to create a vocabulary list in order for the person I am attempting to teach to be able to gain something from this course. However, this is a good starting point for all of the biological courses on this platform as I will be using it as a table of contents for the rest of the courses that this platform has to offer.
