An OpenSTEM Online Summer School providing you with
an introduction to several experimental techniques in biology, analytical and
health sciences via the following online investigations.
Moths to a
flame: surveying moth biodiversity.
Using the
digital fluorescence microscope to study changes in Golgi structure in
individuals with a form of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA): Are your Golgi
bulgy?
Bioinformatics
101: understanding what bioinformatics is and gaining familiarity with
bioinformatics tools.
Two of the investigations were completed online,
either via an interactive screen experiment (Digital fluorescence microscope)
or via remote instrumentation (Remote Scanning Electron Microscope), which
included recording data and observations, data analysis, and interpreting
results. Another investigation involved the collection and analysis of samples
in the field (Moth biodiversity survey) and the final investigation was an
introduction to bioinformatics and the different bioinformatics tools available.
To gain the badge, you must have successfully completed three of the
investigations and the associated quizzes.
