Concepts and theories in international relations

Introduction

‘Concepts’ and ‘theories’ are key tools in the study of International Relations (IR). They can help to impose a kind of analytical order on the real world in order to make it more understandable. However, concepts and theories fulfil different roles in IR, and there are also a variety of theories that approach the subject in different ways.
