Course

To take participation from children while writing a play for them is the main idea of this course. While doing that we will have to study the theatre and be a part of it to understand it. The purpose is to get energized to bring children together and stage a play as early as possible.

Juggling Ideas

Here we will begin discussing a method in which the play will be written and constructed simultaneously in the presence of the participating children and the responsible adults who help them in the backstage. We focus on developing a play with minor intervention by adults - less intervention, more guidance!

Children’s participation will be maximum. Their participation is important from the beginning, as they will take part in deciding the subject of their play.

Ideas are thoughts about the subject of a play. They just appear and disappear. Sometimes they stay for a longer duration. Some visuals, some dialogues, some events flash and we move ahead with day to day task. 

Creative minds are always occupied with these juggling ideas. Selecting the right one and concentrating on that idea is a big decision.

Depending on the interest shown by all or the necessity of that hour some ideas are selected. To convert them into a play rehearsal and a study is conducted. Which may include books for reference, interviewing some people, visiting a place to know more on the subject.

Sometimes the idea may be dropped (due to many reasons), after having the subject studied and rehearsed for days together. The other idea may take its place.

This process takes longer. This confusion remains until the director and all the participants feel satisfied with the subject. Finally after finding one idea to concentrate on the process catches the speed. Now everybody has his ideas about the play. The actors, set designers, musicians, costume and make-up artists start to discuss with the director. Everybody starts visualizing scenes and the atmosphere changes tremendously.

We are approaching the statement.

Now we have everything with us to create a play: the children participating, the backstage people, and the possible subject for the script.

We have arranged a particular sequence of events/scenes in our mind. We have been in rehearsals and discussing with the children every little thought connected with the script. Now we start exploring the theme with the help of discussions and improvise the scenes accordingly.

By this approach, with every rehearsal, we are going closer to the moment when we will be able to make a definite statement; the statement which we had in our mind and have tried to put it in an art form called a play.  

After all the corrections and actually after few final rehearsals the play is ready to have its final draft. It is ready for publishing if one wants to publish it. Publishing the play is necessary as it will reach to many people for reading. There is a possibility that it will be performed in many places too. The final draft will follow the performance of the play. Mostly after many performances, it gets finalized.
