To take participation from children while writing a play for them is the main idea of this course. While doing that we will have to study the theatre and be a part of it to understand it. The purpose is to get energized to bring children together and stage a play as early as possible.

My introduction to theatre
I was introduced to the theatre very early in childhood. I saw many performances of folk theatres like Tamasha, Bharud, Kirtan at my small village in Satara district of Maharashtra, India. I performed theatre for the first time at the age of ten. I continued performing since then and enjoyed doing so.
I got trained in the direction by observing other directors and through books on theatre. I am in the field of children's theatre for the last thirty years and contributed to about the same number of plays to date.
In this course, I want to share with you all my experience of working with children and stress the idea of their participation in playwriting.

Let us use some time to discuss starting chlidren's theatre from your perspective. After reading the initial presentation on the participatory approach and having a chance to look at script writing (and a complete script), think about your context. What is your setting? Who are the children you will work with? What are some of the initial challenges?
