creating an inclusive school

This course is one that all teachers should take. I have a child that was diagnosed with autism. I took interest in finding out what was wrong when one of his teachers expressed her frustration when dealing with him. He is a smart person, however this teacher refused to give him time to complete his work. Me and my wife then embarked on a diagnosis. Since then we try to inform teacher of his condition and suggest ways based on our research, on how to deal with him.

Consequently, to our findings, as a teacher I realized that students are removed from the school where I teach whom displayed behaviors like by child. Therefore this course is needed by all stakeholders of schools, in order to create a sensitivity to different students.

Hi Hubert, your contribution in sharing your own experience of that of your son is an excellent point as being in the know. Thank God for the teachers response that pushes you and your wife to go research on how to deal with your son. This is quite inspiring as it help you the parents and teachers to work together to be more of an inclusive school. I am indeed happy for your swift action in becoming sensitize to his needs and the way forward. I certainly have had encounters with children with autism and time and training are equally important.

I do agree with you that this course will certainly expand on the thought process and fixed mindset of some stakeholders.in helping to foster in creating an inclusive school.

Hi Herbert,

Thanks for sharing your personal experience. Many times, the lack of training in special educations makes it difficult for teachers to provide proper support for students with a disability/SEN in the class.

I agree that these types of courses can help teachers understand about inclusive educations and thus better inform them on how to work and support students in their classes.

I must applaud you and your wife for being proactive parents. It is great that you are conducting research to better inform yourself and support your child. I like that their is good communication with the class teacher, this will no doubt be beneficial for your child. Parents are the best advocates for their children.
