The situation described is one of reality in most schools. Most public schools are not equip with any resources that facilitates inclusion and therefore majority of the students are left back. The soft things referred to in the clip refer to the basic morals and values of the teachers and school administration.
One of the schools I facilitate as a School Social Worker has the policy that students that register are not turned back despite minor physical disabilities. This enhances the school's reputation and other parents with children who has minor disability has been continuously seeking enrollment at the school. This then spreads the news of the school's inclusion of differently abled children.
Another benefit of the resource center would be that there would be a trained person or group of persons equip to cater to the needs of the differently abled child. Consequently, this would help build the self esteem of the child in that the child will feel included in the school environment.
Hi Xiomara and Sharon, great post I also think that a resource center in a school setting would be excellent as there will be trained professionals to accommodate and cater to the individual needs of the children in the environment. The children will feel included.
