First , a student who is challenged has just been added to my classroom. I shared with the students his challenges and encouraged everyone to help to make him as comfortable as possible.

Second , while doing this course , I shared with another teacher , the importance of our school having an inclusive ethos. She has since then signed up for the course and we are sharing and discussing the way forward.

Two actions that I display in my work place that identifies me as an inclusive administrator/teacher are: -

1.  Collaborative interactions with staff, to ensure buy-in to the inclusive school programme. This includes team planning, co-teaching, coaching and modelling inclusive behaviours such as patience, commitment, and enthusiasm for facilitating children's varying needs and abilities in the general education ECCE classroom.

2. Accessing student support services for  acquiring special needs support for children with ADHD, Autism, or language delay is a further proactive step toward creating a positive inclusion environment within the ECCE Centers that I serve.

Inclusive Ethos

Totally agree. Teachers actions are very important in creating an inclusive environment. It is the way teachers display interest in students' work and value their students worth. Teachers must intentionally create learning experiences that will cater to the diverse abilities of their students. Thus, students will know that they are valued and will be motivated to learn.

I also, try to find new strategies to help them during their activities or any other issue. I respect them as unique individuals and I try to cater for each individual needs.

We are teachers, we belong to the profession that makes all other profession and I believe that once we have the willingness to make something work we can do it, but if we don't want to do it we will never succeed. If we believe that we can create an environment where all our children can learn and all our parents feel welcomed and respected then inclusive education is real and possible. If there is a will we will always find a way to make it work for all our children.

As a teacher, in our school during the registration process, the administrator enquires with parents if the child has any special needs. From this response administrators shares it with staff (teachers). Teacher then collaborate with parents and plan how best they can assist the child with the specific need and work towards this goal. Furthermore administrators access student support services to acquire assistance for children with disabilities to ensure they get the best education opportunity available to them.
