School Policy

Looking at the first question; How they will admit children with disabilities to the school. A school that I am familiar with follows the following: NaRCIE (National Resource Center for Inclusive Education) which is an educational support service of the Ministry of education, referral process needs to adhere to.  On the recommendations and commitment of NaRCIE to provide support to the teacher in supporting student then the child is admitted to the school. However, if the parent does not want the child to be supported by NaRCIE the child will not be turned away and the school and teacher will provide support to the best of their ability without technical support and the child is mainstream.

Jacqueline, happy to hear there are schools with admission policy that takes into consideration children with special needs. More encouraging is the follow up to give teachers support to ensure inclusivity is taking place. I have not worked in such a school and as such I will share this idea to board of management of schools, especially where I am a member.

It is good that the school does not force  parents to accept the support provided by the school, but still admits the child in mainstream. and the teachers still try to support the best way they can.

This is really commendable. It is hopeful that many countries will get to this level.

There is no such policy in Nigeria, a deliberate effort is required to make this happen.

Thank you Jacqueline for sharing.
