1.7 Monitoring Inclusive Schools

Schools are different in terms of what they do to be the inclusive school. As mentioned before, one of my feature that is observed in a school is by having children who have disabilities to take part in assemblies and  they are being applaud. Also for communities to visit the school for a session name cultural day. These children participates and their effort is applauded. This make children participation rises because they feel the appreciation.

Children appreciation can be encouraged with more stakeholder participation and community organisations. Inclusion make them feel part of something that is significant.

In the inclusive school there should be modification of the physical environment and provision of resources to students who in some form or fashion is denied access. In the school that I am familiar with for example, we have a student with a physical disability. The hindrances to access to classes is removed as the school accessed a wheel chair, which stays by the door while not in use. The student also has an aid. Their is also collaboration with administration, teachers and parent as parent needs are facilitated. In this case parent has the liberty to come in as necessary to assist the child where needed.

Yes Katherine, it is so important that schools become inclusive. It will bring awareness of the various types of disabilities and cause greater respect and acceptance to be given to students with disabilities; from administration, staff, parents and other students.
