Inclusive classrooms in early childhood

I introduced the SPED Inclusion program in my preschool year 2003. We include 2-3 children with special needs- mostly children with Autism, ADHD and Speech Delay.

During parent orientation, I stress out that all children require the school to provide equal opportunities to learn and develop and by having an inclusion program at the preschool, children learn to understand why other children behave differently and how we can all help those children thrive in the classroom. I also always emphasize that all children have special needs and us teachers answer to these needs through differentiated instruction.

Some parents were very optimistic about the program and even volunteered to assist whenever they can. A few parents still need orientation and it took a while to dispell some misconceptions about special learners.

The program is very successful that we have had learners who qualified for big schools who are willing to take them in their regular classrooms.
