I took a training seminar that was organized by the Ministry of Education. This training seminar highlight over a period of a few days the different aspects of special needs with students. We were taken into an actual classroom setting in order for us to observe how the teachers interacted with their students that were in an inclusive setting and how they went about their daily routines so that these special needs students were able to complete their tasks and play an integral role within the classroom. This definitely assisted me because I had no idea how to go about dealing with these students. The teachers in this particular school were well equipped and it was a network of individuals that helped to make it all possible. With training and with community support inclusive education is definitely possible.
Good to note that you have gone for a training seminar on special needs education Pauline. Professional development is important in equipping teachers with skills and knowledge on inclusive education. Your experiences triggers in me memories of the Inclusive Teaching and Learning course which is still open on this platform, offered by COL and OU UK. In the course, you will encounter video clips of teachers handling learners with special needs. If you have not done the course, I would highly recommend that you have a look at it. It will definitely enrich your knowledge in inclusive education.
