Obstacles overcome

Very early in my teaching career, just a couple months after completing my BEd, I was assigned to a school and class that was neglected by most teachers at that school. The general idea was that the children of the class were 'too slow', 'too impoverished', 'too much' for anyone else to care for. For someone whose love was the ECCE Centres, I applied what I learned at school and married it with my own experiences during Practicum sessions. I created a learning environment that was similar to that of an ECCE Centre within the confines of a small classroom space. The children recognised the genuine effort and love I had for them and the respect that I showed to their families. It was amazing to see that within a short space of time, these children who were labelled with behavioural and learning disabilities flourished. They were willing to complete tasks, work cooperatively and their general attitudes towards education began to change.

Sometimes love and effort goes a long way. (heart)
