Week One - 1.2 What makes an Inclusive Education

Inclusive education means that all students attend and are welcomed by their schools in age-appropriate, regular classes and are supported to learn, contribute and participate in all aspects of the life of the school. It is about how we develop and design our schools, classrooms, programs and activities so that all students learn and participate together. We can ensure access to quality education for all students by effectively meeting their diverse needs in a way that is responsive, accepting, respectful and supportive.

3)  How does a school that you know make positive attitudes to inclusive education obvious to all those connected to the school?


Schools that we know that make positive attitudes to inclusion education and to those connected, have done so in various ways. One major factor in our local schools are teachers ; teachers are the key to the success of inclusionary programs and inclusive education can only be successful if teachers are part of the team driving this process (Horne, 1983; Malone, Gallagher, & Long, 2001). For example in our Centre our Special Needs children are paired with a trained and resourceful aid.

Soft Skills 


Soft Skills are skills we do not see. It is skills that are interpersonal and  Behavioral skills. For example, the teacher's attitude or administrative decisions.
