“Convention on the rights of person with disabilities” I was always a strong believer in “every child has a right to an education regardless of their disabilities” children were not asked to be born with disabilities why should they be chastised by the community or world at large for being born different. Parents and children should not live-in fear of being accepted in our world. We all play a crucial part in creating an environment of inclusion and acceptance. Inclusion means integration rather than segregation.
Government plays a crucial role in providing an inclusive environment by their involvement in taking an active role in providing transportation for children to get to and from school, planning in terms of location, building for accessibility, child protection so that children feel safe and secure. Most importantly, ensuring laws are put in place as well as financial support to off set the cost of resources and materials to meet the needs of these children and parents.
Inclusive education includes many components to ensure every need is provided to its stakeholders. First and foremost, there must by systems in place to provide a smooth transition from one level to the next I have seen schools providing inclusive education while they have provided systems some of these systems become dormant along the way. I have seen a school that have provided a wonderful physical setting to empower children with disabilities however, there were no additional aids in place provided to give emotional support for parents and children. I think that this school should have provided stable partnership among its stakeholders to ensure proper monitoring are been done. In this way children progression would be tracked and transition may become easier and less stressful for both parents and children. Culture change is an ideal environment to facilitate emotional problems. Cultural change enables persons with disabilities to feel comfortable in their skin and external environmentThe planning and development for inclusive needs to be inclusive of communities, stakeholder, and learners. Therefore partnerships amongst governmental and non governmental organization with only help further develop educational systems.
Partnership and culture change is extremely critical in creating a best practice inclusive environment. Miss Ramdeo i totally agree with the components of your post. All stakeholders must be involved if we are to meet the needs of each child in our care. Diversity and appreciating differences should be at the forefront our philosophy.
