An IEP is a document that provides a systematic way to plan for and monitor and assess the progress of a pupil with special educational needs. An IEP needs to include:

 1. Strengths of the child

2.  A description of the difficulties faced by the child.

3. A plan of action to enable the pupil to overcome these difficulties.

 4. Clear goals for the pupil to achieve within a set timeframe.

5.  Specific activities and actions to help the pupil achieve the goals.

6.  How the pupil’s progress will be evaluated.

IEPs are important simply because special education students are important. The IEP creates an opportunity for teachers, parents, school administrators, related services personnel, and students (when appropriate) to work together to improve educational results for children with disabilities. Undoubtedly, The IEP is the cornerstone of a quality education for each child with a disability.

Good question Rose.

Individual Education Plans (IEP) are helpful in that they provide correct and updated information on the status and progress of every pupil to all the stakeholders. The information  in IEPs can be used in developing strategies to address the learners diverse needs.
