1.4 Developing postive attitudes

I had an experience in a school where I worked at in the past. There was child with autism. He was great with his letters , and would  read the print on the wall and recognize his  numbers and.colours. It was really amazing how he will look at the words on the wall and spell it out for the teachers. As a staff we had to all work together to build on his strengths and to work with him where he needed support  in other areas. He had a challenge socializing but  on observing him we incorporated all the children in being his friend and looking out for him when he is doing his activities  and he will have their support as.well as ours. It took sometime and alot reflection on our part and observations to help in working with him but the postive attitude of the staff really came through for him and he  helped him make friends while in the environment,  he even had a.best friend who he will look for to play with.

That is a commendable effort by the team.

It would have promoted healthy wellbeing and compassion among the students. Other schools will equally learn from this selfless service to improve teaching and learning in general

Miss Harold I would like to commend and applaud you and your team for your service. I was particularly pleased when i saw you mentioned the in- depth self reflection on the part of the staff. Patience, self reflection and paramount love is key when dealing with all our children, disability or not.......... and by doing what you all did, you definitely directly and indirectly taught your little ones about compassion and selflessness in caring for others and appreciating and valuing differences.

I think the support was quite positive and it assisted in fostering effective communication and comfort with the student.
