2. The support that teachers will provide in the classroom
Administrators and teachers with a positive attitude towards
inclusive education are committed and willing to do all that is necessary for the
students to learn and succeed regardless of their needs. The principal of a
school that I know embraces inclusion and is proactive in providing support
to the teachers. The staff participates in continuous staff development training
in best teaching practices and special education topics. The principal frequently
visits teachers in their classrooms and observes lessons. Feedback is provided to
the teacher on ways to improve their delivery and support to students with disabilities
or special educational needs in the class. Teachers are encouraged to plan differentiated
lessons to accommodate the different learning styles and needs of students. The
use of learning stations for small group instruction, review and practice,
as well as alternative assessment, is also encouraged. The teachers provide remedial support for the
students that require it.
