Ethos and Culture

I would say that a school that is open to challenges is a factor which contributes to inclusiveness. Let`s have in mind that not all schools are open to inclusiveness. A second factor would be community awareness on what is an inclusive community. This would involve parents, students, teachers, administrators and expertise in that area. Having all involved and participating, prepares the way for a community with a good ethos and culture geared towards an inclusive school.

Very true Samuel. It is almost impossible to have an inclusive shool without parents and sorrounding community coming on board. How can teachers working in schools that are not open to inclusivity change this attitude?

Well said Samuel; everyone's involvement and participation would truly pave the way for a community with a positive ethos and culture geared toward an inclusive/welcoming school. Once the inclusive/welcoming school environment has been established within the community, all parties must continue to collaborate for inclusive education to be successful.

I quite agree with your points, when I read the article and your comment all that came to mind is the theory from Urie Bronfrenbrenner where it incorporates all the persons who should be responsible to create an ethos and culture for all children's learning.

Totally agree. Inclusiveness do not happen overnight and not only by one person. It takes a team to create an inclusive school. It starts with the openness of administration and staff in facing challenges and doing something about it and getting the community to put in their hands to assist.

So true, Samuel. Inclusiveness cannot be a reality without stakeholder involvement.  All must be on board and see, not just the necessity, but the value of having an inclusive school for it to be successful.

So True Samuel. When all stakeholders can recognise the benefits of inclusion that creates the ethos. New parents coming to the school environment will buy into the culture of the school.
