Act. 1.7 Monitoring inclusive school

I now understand that making a school inclusive is not something that comes out over-night. I know of teachers and administrators who have tried to make their schools inclusive. One thing which they missed and have learnt here was doing some monitoring. I tried to check in the learners register noted that one learner was not attending classes for some days but it was learnt the teacher did not find out why the learner was absent.

In terms of monitoring, class teachers of a particular school document all activities for each student.  These activities include attendance, assessment results, disruptive behaviours observed, how the disruptive situation was dealt with etc. In this way, staff can track student progress and changes that would have occurred with particular children within a time frame.

Attendance record is important but you should always have a record on why the child was absent. We ask our parents to provide a note stating why the child was absent, This is placed in the child's file, also the parent can notify us via phone call. If they do not, we mention to the administrator who makes contact with parents and we keep a note in child's file.
