Two important features of an inclusive school and how they are put into
action at the school I work in are:1) Teacher Development- Teachers are required
to do courses to assist and enhance their knowledge with dealing with students
of different abilities. These courses facilitate the teacher’s ability to identify
the different disability of their students as well as provide ways in which
they can help their students in the classroom in terms of facilitating material
adaptations, allocating time for everybody to facilitate inclusion in a lesson being
taught. 2) Promoting a Positive Attitude Towards Inclusion in School-Our
principal always highlights the need for the teachers to have a positive attitude
in adapting our scheme of work to assist and cater to the needs of all the students
of different abilities in our classroom. We are asked to provide extra support
and resources differently abled students whereby their self-esteem will increase,
and they will be motivated to learn and attend school
Revel that is excellent ....in my country our infrastructure does not easily cater for this . we lack space etc. however we have special ed teachers assigned to schools to assist with the curriculum delivery.
We are not sent on compulsory courses and most of the information we gather is from other teachers who do degrees in special education.
indeed promoting a positive attitude is very important . i would even say without that you cannot move forward.
we have several associations that offer training that teachers engage in during the school holidays.
