after listening to the video what impressed upon me was the resource room.
this room can change a child's self esteem after leaving rejected or just not fitting in , not understanding the class work
this room would provide a special place for the child with the necessary tools to faciliate learning.
According to IDEA (Individual with Disabilities Educational Improvement Act), children with disabilities are to be educated in the "least restrictive environment," which means they are to learn alongside children without disabilities to the maximum extent possible.
However, remaining in the same space as general education students may be at times difficult or less than beneficial for students with disabilities, and it is in those cases that they are brought to the resource rooms.
Watson, Sue. "Introduction to Special Education Resource Rooms." ThoughtCo, Feb. 16, 2021, thoughtco.com/special-education-resource-room-3110962.
sometimes in the general classroom there are distractions which can impede a child with disabilities ability to function .
the resource room assists with this and allows for learnig to take place..
I agree with you, I love the idea of this resource room/centre.
You mentioned a child whose special need maybe a challenge remaining in the general classroom, and I've experienced this. As much as we will aim for true inclusion, sometimes, the special child may need more space, specialized resources or a less stimulating environment that may be presented in the general classroom.
The resource room provides that support and setting for such a child to better engage.
Additionally, the video spoke about possibly having a resource expert who may either take the child to that room and work with them, or the expert being able to come into the classroom and support the teacher with the special child. That way, the child does not have to be removed and be set apart from the other children, but can receive individualized attention with the expert working alongside.
I quite agree with you and have seen this to be true in an Early Childhood setting.
